Aya :: (ah-yah) is an adinkra symbol depicting the fern. It is a symbol of endurance, independence, perseverance and resourcefulness.



Duafe :: (doo-ah-phe) is an adinkra symbol that represents the wooden comb, a prized article in the Akan woman's possession. It is a symbol of feminine consideration or good feminine qualities.


Adinkra symbols reflect traditional beliefs, values and standards of the Akan people (Ghana, West Africa). The multilayered meanings of adinkra symbols convey messages about social values and philosophical concepts. Adinkra implies a message a soul takes along when leaving the earth.
